Vista Coop was set up in 2003 with the aim based on the cooperative values with special emphasis on self-help and social responsibility. It has established its own main objectives which are early-years education, educare, edutainment and childcare. The flagship project of Vista Coop in its inception was Kidstart Summer Club. Each summer children between the ages of 2 and 15 years, including those with special needs, were given the opportunity by Vista Coop to learn while having fun in a variety of activities within an 8-week programme in a safe and welcoming environment of a government school. Vista Coop was the pioneer of quality care and summer services for school going children.
The philosophy behind all activities was that of caring (caring for ourselves, for the others and for the environment) and was strongly emphasised throughout the program. With regards to the programme and activities especially tailor-made for each age group, the Nursery at Kidstart Summer Club (Kidstart ‘Mini’) was a specialised unit which provided childcare services for children between 2 and 3. A service that was highly sought after due to the high quality care and professional service offered by Vista coop as the providers. Qualified childcarers were then employed to care for these children in the ratio of 6:1.
This experience during the initial years was successful and was confirmed by the positive feedback given by parents, children and staff – resulting into great popularity and trust it gained each year. Year after year, parents who made use of Kidstart ‘Mini’ voiced their yearning for a continuous service rather than just for summer. This prompted Vista Coop to embark on the project of promoting best practice in childcare facilities for the benefit of the children and also to support parents in employment, in education or training, as well as parents who are in search for work, by opening a year-round facility… and since then, we never looked back!
